New position statement on protein and exercise published by International Society of Sports Nutrition
The International Society of Sports Nutrition critically reviewed the current scientific literature on protein intake for healthy exercising adults. Their conclusion: “Increasing protein intake by consuming whole foods as well as high-quality supplemental protein sources can improve the adaptive response to training”.
Food-Based Dietary guidelines around the globe
Students of the Wageningen University (The Netherlands) provided an overview of the official food-based dietary guidelines around the world, in collaboration with the Dutch National Institute for Public Health and the Environment and the Nutrition Centre in the Netherlands. They found that 93 out of 226 countries have a food-based dietary guideline, whereby hierarchical models, such as pyramids, are used equally to non-hierarchical models, such as plates.
Conference for dietitians across Europe on 29 and 30 September 2017 in Rotterdam
On 29 and 30 September 2017 the European Federation of the Association of Dietitians (EFAD) organizes its annual conference in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The theme of the 10th EFAD conference is ‘The future is now’. Part of the program is a parallel session on sports nutrition.

New dietary recommendations for sports nutrition
The American College of Sports Medicine in association with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Dietitians of Canada have published an update of the dietary recommendations for athletes. In their joint position statement, dietary recommendations are given for the appropriate amount and timing of intake for carbohydrate, protein, fluid, vitamins and minerals.
European study into improvement of the diet of elderly people
With an ever growing older European population it is relevant to know which nutritional interventions are effective for people over 65. A study conducted by Wageningen University & Research shows that elderly people are very well able to improve their eating habits. Supervision by a dietitian was an essential part of the program.
