The annual World Dairy Summit was organised from 16 – 19 October 2016 in Rotterdam. Over 1000 dairy experts from all over the world gathered to discuss social themes related to dairy. This year’s theme was: ‘Dare to Dairy’.
‘Providing good and well-balanced nutrition is the key factor for solving poverty in the world.’ With these words Gerda Verburg opened the IDF World Dairy Summit 2016 in Rotterdam. Verburg is coordinator of the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, a UN-based international network organisation aimed at defeating malnutrition in the world. According to Verburg, the dairy sector can play a key role in reaching the UN sustainability goals.
The ‘Dairy Declaration of Rotterdam’ was signed during the closing session of the World Dairy Summit on Wednesday 19 October. With this, the international dairy sector committed itself to the sustainability goals of the United Nations.
